About TRSL

Retirement security in a changing world
TRSL is the state's largest public retirement system, providing services and benefits to more than 160,000 individuals. Founded in 1936, TRSL is a governmental defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code as a public trust fund to provide retirement benefits for its members. TRSL is funded by member and employer contributions and earnings from investments. TRSL is governed by a 17-member Board of Trustees.

Our goal is to provide exceptional member services, including accurate and timely benefit payments to all eligible retirees, beneficiaries, and survivors.

Calculators

These calculators can help you make decisions about your retirement benefits and options. Please be aware that these calculators provide estimates only. They are not linked to your personal information, so the accuracy of the projections depends entirely on the data that you enter.

Regular Plan Benefit Calculator
This calculator produces a service retirement estimate for Regular Plan members. The estimate does not include credit for eligible sick or annual leave, which is added after retirement.

NOTE: If you are a TRSL member with at least five years of service credit and have not entered DROP, you will find projected years of service, retirement benefits, and date of retirement based on the current fiscal year on your annual member statement. If you would like an official, written estimate of your projected retirement benefit please call TRSL at 225-925-6446 or toll free (outside the Baton Rouge area) at 1-877-ASK-TRSL (1-877-275-8775).

ORP Comparison Calculator
This calculator compares the benefits offered by the Regular Plan and the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). Enrollment in the ORP is available to members employed in higher education with less than five years of TRSL service credit.

Social Security Benefit Calculators
These calculators are located on the Social Security Administration’s website, and can help you estimate potential Social Security benefits. Note that your Social Security benefits may be reduced if you receive a TRSL benefit.
