Session News #4: Legislative week in review

TRSL Director Maureen H. Westgard and LASERS Executive Director Cindy Rougeou made a joint presentation before the Senate Retirement Committee earlier this week to provide an overview of the retirement systems’ funding and performance.
Westgard and Rougeou also detailed the numerous reforms Louisiana has made over the last 25 years that will result in $8 billion of long-term cost savings related to pensions. View the joint powerpoint presentation here.
What's ahead - Week of April 27: Recap of legislative action on retirement bills:
- Senate Bill 14 (Sen. Guillory): voluntarily deferred by the author
- Senate Bill 16 (Sen. Guillory): reported favorably to the full Senate
- Senate Bill 20 (Sen. Long): reported favorably to the full Senate
- House Bill 10 (Rep. Pearson): reported favorably to the full House
The full Senate is scheduled to consider SB 16 and SB 20 on Monday, April 27. The Senate Retirement Committee is not scheduled to meet next week.

- House Bill 42 (Rep. Jones) would provide a 1.5% permanent benefit increase (also known as a COLA) to eligible retirees and beneficiaries of the four state retirement systems. The increase would be payable on July 1, 2015.
- House Bill 43 (Rep. LeBas) would increase the earnings limit from 25% to 50% of the retirement benefit for a TRSL retiree who returns to work as a substitute classroom teacher.
