When Can I Retire?
For those who first became members of a state public retirement system prior to January 1, 2011
Each of TRSL’s retirement plans – the Regular Plan for teachers, or Plans A or B for school food service employees – has different retirement eligibility requirements. Refer to the minimum eligibility requirements below to find out when you can retire.
Regular Plan retirement eligibility requirements
Membership before July 1, 1999
With a 2.0% benefit factor:
- Age 60 with 5 years of service credit*
- Any age with 20 years of service credit*
With a 2.5% benefit factor:
- Age 65 with 20 years of service credit**
- Age 55 with 25 years of service credit
- Any age with 30 years of service credit
Membership on or after July 1, 1999
With a 2.5% benefit factor:- Age 60 with 5 years of service credit*
- Age 55 with 25 years of service credit
- Any age with 30 years of service credit
- Any age with 20 years of service credit* (actuarially reduced)
*Excludes military service purchased after September 10, 1982
**Excludes any military service
Plan A retirement eligibility requirements
With a 3.0% benefit factor:
- Age 60 with 5 years of service credit*
- Age 55 with 25 years of service credit
- Any age with 30 years of service credit
Plan B retirement eligibility requirements
- Age 60 with 5 years of service credit*
- Age 55 with 30 years of service credit
